About the Cover:  Earlier in Isaiah, God's people were compared to a great tree that had been felled, leaving only the stump. However, just as large roots draw their sustenance and nutrients from the earth, this stump of Jesse was rooted in the promises of God's Word. Crist is that promise that grew forth from these roots in order to bear the fruit of salvation, making the cross into a life-giving tree.
